D&D 2E Jakandor

That's a good book, and has a surprising amount of Al-Qadim setting material, but it's still not a complete society of them, which is what I was thinking about with Jakandor and Hallowfaust.
Yes it was a good book. I had stopped playing for a while when it came out and when I started back up a year or two later I had a hell of a time hunting it down at local game stores. Come to think of it I think I found it online using my brothers Web TV on a nascent game store website. The Sages Guild IIRC. Paid a lot for it too. I don't recall the Al-Qadim material in it which is odd because I owned most of the boxed sets at the time and read them. That was another setting that I read but never played, too hard of a sell to the people I was playing with at the time. You are correct Jakandor and Hallowfaust offered a lot more than the Complete Book of Necromancers. Sword & Sorcery definitely made some good mini settings.

Complete Book of Necromancers has a small setting, creatively called Isle of the Necromancers, as I recall, that's meant to be just off the coast of Al-Qadim (I have no idea if it appears on the Al-Qadim map).
Minor quibble: It's called the Isle of the Necromancer Kings, and it involves a lost society of necromancers, mostly of the evil stripe, with a mostly-uninhabited island playing host to a lot of ruins and a few powerful necromancers intent on plundering them. It is still quite cool, IMO.

Thanks! I sold my copy at least 15 years ago.

I stopped playing D&D in 1991, and didn’t come back until 1996.

And when I did come back, I DM’d AD&D 1e for a bunch of people who fell off the current edition bandwagon in the 2e era. I only “got right with the current edition” from 2001-2008 (a year late to 3e through a year into early 4e).

But nowadays, it’s much easier to pick up things you missed, even from the mid-late 2e explosion of content.

Absolutely, with Noble Knight Games, eBay and other websites it's pretty easy to find whatever you are looking for as long as you have the money. These days I'd be more interested in selling stuff than looking for older products, but on occasion there is something I'm looking for but that is rare. We briefly played 2E about a year and a half to two years ago and I realized both my 1989 and 1995 revision copies were in really bad condition, & duct taped back to life. I was able to track down copies of the 95 PHB and the DMG. The DMG was in a little worse condition than advertised and the seller gave me 50% of my money back, so I think I spent maybe $30-$35 for both. The hardbound Monstrous Compendium on the other hand was pretty expensive. My copy although duct taped together as well was still in decent enough shape that I didn't bother replacing it. Made me remember how much we played 2E.

At one point I collected and sold more 2E stuff than I actually used. Don't get me wrong I used a lot of 2E material. It's just a testament how many 2E products there were. TSR was putting out 4-6 products a month if I had to guess come the mid-90s.
Good guess. It peaked at 6.5 per month in 1995.

Thats right in the middle of 2E too, and comes out to 78 that year, which is a lot. I realize it was one of the reasons TSR eventually went bankrupt and was sold to WotC but I do miss the variety from that era, as well as getting the yearly and quarterly catalogs for the upcoming releases. Besides the MM coming out the only thing I'm really interested in is the FR books coming out in November, seems such a long time away.
