They are good, but the magic isn’t as dangerous.
A thing that make DCC magic more dangerous is mercurial magic. Which I don’t think those others have.

I had also forgot how non rules light DCC is. Not that is a bad thing, but some of the elements I had forgot about in terms of class design. Though the magic system is cool. I had only played a single adventure, a funnel where my main survivor was a guy who went into the battle with a chicken. Sadly the Roll20 game fell apart at that point.

Chickens must be good luck. I played in a funnel where a fellow player's survivor had a chicken.

I can't say that chicken was key to survival but I sure wasn't going to let go of it.
After looking over the Lanhkmar box, its well done. They do have some a different take on the magic but its still got some randomness to it, just not mercurial. No clerics, no demi humans, I think that is more what I want to do compared to 8 different humanoid species and all that. Though the base DCC set is okay with just dwarf, elf, and halfling.

I do like the Lankhmar box. The idea of a “meet” vs a funnel is cool too.

Yeah. I'm not sure how the guys I gamed with would go for the funnel. I did the funnel and enjoyed it, but you have to approach it with the right frame of mind. Not get goofy because 2 of your 4 PC just got smashed flat.

For folks who don’t like the funnel the meet is a possibility.
1st level and one character. It also is THE way the PCs meet, in a very Lankhmar way.
