Right. The context matters. The content itself would be a bit questionable/potentially discomfiting, as Afroconan pointed out, depending on your level of cultural literacy and sensitivity to the particular dog whistles, but this larger context with the author makes it look like Afroconan's alarm sensor going off was indeed justified as feared. The problem is that the author has chosen to signal-boost hateful reactionaries on social media. The portrayal of a Fantasy Counterpart Catholicism is definitely a concern. But I'm much more concerned about a guy who seems to think that Elon Musk, who spreads conspiracy theories about Jews promoting white genocide and fired the Twitter moderation staff responsible for monitoring against child abuse content on Twitter (and even reinstated one account that posted such stuff), should buy WotC.
100%For sure. But that is still political speech, even if it's intended to be "in a better world (with world-ending undead looming in the darkness), this is how the Catholic Church would be."
It doesn't become "not political" just because the author doesn't want to talk to politics after getting the last word in.
People are usually nice in person regardless of politics. And specially so when they are trying to sell you a product.I met the author at a con and he was a very nice dude, and didn't seem to push an agenda during play.
1) That is the most fantasy (conservative) Catholicism that has ever shown up in a fantasy game.
2) My players who think I flesh out my fantasy religions too much would likely have a stroke if they saw all of that.
None of this is even useful at the table! And here's how the evil chaos cults is described... Your usual sexual deviants bringers of "degeneracy", basically.
These wouldn't bother me at all if not for the broader context of other religions and the "sanctimonious" tone of the author.
None of this is even useful at the table!
If you're going to be this guy, it should at least have some sort of positive impact on the game.

ugh 'Although He desires worship from His followers, it is not for His benefit but theirs.' sounds like an abusive relationship...Like, for real... This is not subtle at all...
