No one is entirely certain how the Drek came to be. Some suggest they were the creation of a pantheon of now-forgotten gods slain by their own worshippers. Others speak to magical experiments that were loosed into the wild in some forgotten epoch only to return to the civilized world once their population in the wild was too large to remain isolated any longer. Whatever the case may be, they exist, and woe betide the world for whatever folly created them.so what are the drek? i'll assume the macabre is at least undead adjacent or something along those lines.
A vaguely reptillian and strangely feline being, drek combine the worst traits of both groups into an unharmonious whole. With faces not unlike a cat’s with a broad but flat nose and large searching eyes with a slit pupil, their mouths are crammed with the teeth of a crocodile and they often bear fins or ridges that look aquatic in origin. Lithoderms mar their shoulders and arms in a manner reminiscent of scales, and their powerful, clublike, tails force them into the hunched posture of a predator. Yet they bear hair, in just as many cases as fins. And sideburns that sometimes connect across the chin into dark, bristly manes are not uncommon, either.
Regardless of who or how they were created, they are known as the drek because of their general position within society… which is to say they have none. While they certainly have the ability to be as cultured as any species, their cultural tendency leans less toward diplomat and more towards warhordling.
They've got three bloodlines for heritage gifts. Jungle (Tookreh), Saltwater (Otanreh), and Savannah (Adareh) which each give them environmental adaptations for those regions.
As a base heritage they get to move slightly faster, a natural weapon tail strike, and the ability to reattach, or regrow, severed limbs when they expend a hit die.
