Launched a new family campaign with my spouse, niece, two brothers-in-law, and nephew's ex (she's still family).
Premise: a local mine had unearthed a deposit of exceedingly rare and valuable "driftstone," that can be used to build airships, among other things. A local gang was after it, and the party was hired to track down a series of break-ins that seemed to be targeting this mysterious substance. This led them to a warehouse, where they interrupted the gang in progress:
Capturing the leader gangster in charge of the break-in, they learned that she was the lieutenant of the gang's leader, who had tracked down the location of the driftstone mine and gone there to force its owners to basically become his junior partners. So the party was headed off to the mine. (Note: in this fight, I used the ogre with the cart as a "chain ogre," but swing the cart around; it was super fun).
The party snuck up to the mine's entrance and was able to get the drop on the ambush the gang had set up:
So next they blundered into a fairly obvious trap, weakening them before they confronted the BBEG, his gryphon mount, and henchmen that included an ettin, before rescuing the mine owners. This fight was super tactical because they had to figure out how to work on and around the floating chunks of driftstone. Falling damage became an issue.
