D&D General How would you make this ruling? Vortex Warp

...except that's the opposite scenario from that described in the OP. it's straight up irrelevant.
Perfect example of player bias and how players are not impartial .

"We the players approve of the special use of this spell where only DM controlled monsters that swallow whole PCs can be teleported away to free the swallowed PC, Only!

"Any other use of the spell that might effect our PCs does not work ever!"

yeah, okay, cool, just make up stuff i never said, amazing. it's not the opposite scenario because of "muh player bias", it's the opposite scenario because the OP describes teleporting a hostile (edit: grappler, basically) (who would obviously attempt to resist), while you're describing teleporting an ally (edit: who is being grappled). and i never said that wouldn't work - in fact, i said the opposite, that it's such a basic use of the spell that it would obviously work.

I think you missed the trick: the kobold caster would cast it on their ally, not the PC......
Ah ok that might actually make more sense for the kobold, it automatically works without needing a saving throw. There is no question that this works, it is entirely the purpose of Vortex Warp.

Why would anyone complain about a spell being used for its obviously intended purpose? I mean yeah some people will complain about anything, but that's not really relevant here

There's a world of difference between teleporting someone out of a grapple and someone that's been grappled. You can't see the person swallowed and have no line of effect to them. You can still see the grappled person so they're a legitimate target for a whole slew of spells and effects the swallowed one is not. It's completely different scenarios to me.

I would say teleport other is way too powerful for a 2nd level spell. That is just me.
