Paizo and Ossian Studios has revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Pathfinder: The Dragon's Demand video game, with a Kickstarter set to launch soon. The new game is a CRPG-style game that uses a tabletop miniatures-style and the Pathfinder 2E ruleset. The story is an adaptation of the 2013 adventure The Dragon's Demand, a 1st-7th level adventure set in Taldor that features heroes facing a new Dragon Tyrant. While the game uses digital miniatures, it also features various visual effects, dynamic weather, and adaptive poses not really feasible with a tabletop setting. The game will also feature an expanded storyline, new side quests and a new "personal storyline" for player characters.

The Kickstarter will feature "authentic minted precious metal City of Absalom coins and 3D printable STL mini files" among other rewards, per the press release announcing the pending campaign.

Ossian Studios is an independent studio based out of Vancouver, CA. They've previously developed several well-received Neverwinter Nights modules.

You can check out the first trailer for the game below:

One of my favorite starter adventures. I have run this at least 20 times in PF and have run it about 5 times in 5E, and currently getting it set up to run in shadowdark. Fun adventure, lots of opportunities to customize, and make it your own, interesting choices and paths, fun story that you can easily drop in lots of seeds in for other adventures. I do tone down the number of magical items in the adventure.

"a CRPG-style game that uses a tabletop miniatures-style and the Pathfinder 2E ruleset." - so this is an actual computer game, right? Because watching that trailer it looks like "digital miniatures" means "we aren't going to animate the pcs/npcs/monsters in this thing" which is a pretty dramatic shortcut for a game like this. Digital miniatures is more of a VTT term so if this isn't a VTT that seems like a misstep.

"it also features various visual effects, dynamic weather, and adaptive poses not really feasible with a tabletop setting" - I mean, yeah, things you would expect a CRPG to include going back 20+ years.

This just seems like a weird way to present a CRPG - they are not a new concept. Any Pathfinder game like this is going to be compared to Wrath of the Righteous and Kingmaker from the last few years, not to mention the Baldur's Gate games, etc. so I do not get the strategy here.

Based on just this trailer, I'd assume it's just the fight scenarios from the adventure (with maybe a brief interlude text window to set the scene up)...

Which would be fine, if it's readily expandable by them, once their groundwork is done. Anything using PF2e gets my interest!

EDIT: Oh, they previously made Neverwinter Nights modules, that makes perfect sense.

I hope that it is going to be on GOG as welll as that's normally where I buy games (travel and steam being drm which has to be connected to the internet so steam can even start up is a non-starter for me, as half the time I don't even have access to the internet on my travel...so...I don't use steam).

Obviously it can vary by game but I have a Steam Deck which I take with me when I travel and will often times play games in offline mode on the Deck in the plane.
