D&D 1E Old module question.

I'm looking for info on module L2.

I have L1 and L3, and am looking to complete the set. Anyone remember this one, or what it was called? I just went 15 pages deep on Ebay, and no dice... 1 and 3, yes- L2- no!

I'm currently attempting to organize my collection of D&D stuff, and dug out all the modules I could find. Way more than I thought I had, lol. It's got me fired up to run or play a B/X or AD&D game, that's for sure!

I rolled up an entire party of 4 characters for Moldvay Basic- in appx 1/2 hour. Impressed at how easy it was- it's been decades! If you want to play NOW, or get a replacement character ready ASAP, B/X is the edition for you!

Assassins Knot. Not sure if I still have it. I think this is the one with undead pirates and a magic item keeping the undead at bay until it was stolen.

That description doesn't ring a bell.

L2 is D&D's first murder mystery adventure. The pcs have to investigate the murder of the Baron of Restenford. It's very open-ended, picking up from a number of the threads in the town and npc descriptions in L1.

Buying equipment was the part that usually slowed me down.

Hmm, yes, I should probably get belladonna and a mirror in case I need to deal with werewolves and vampires . . . as a first level character.

Looks like I was thinking of this adventure from Dungeon Magazine #71. It takes place after Assassin's Knot with the new baron. I'm giving me partial credit for my old mind.
As Jester said, L2 is a murder mystery. Quite a lot of the detail about the Baron's court and castle provided in L1 seems like it was intended to be useful for and to set up L2.

L1 is a classic module which gets a lot of love because it provides a starting town in very similar detail to T1 The Village of Hommlet, combined with a nice local area map, which I personally used as the local area for my last campaign while swapping out the dungeon on Bone Hill entirely with a bigger one.

L2 is a more ambitious but less successful project. Lakofka's instructions for running the mystery include some pretty railroady stuff and to run divinations antagonistically, which is disappointing. If you're running it, I recommend reading it carefully and making changes as needed for it to make sense to you.

Len Lakofka was also active on a few old school forums like Dragonsfoot.org and on old school and AD&D-specific Facebook groups in the years prior to his death, and regularly wrote up or described new game material. This includes multiple entire free modules set on Lendore which are still available on Dragonsfoot.

L4 Devilspawn (adventure set on the Lendore Isles, for 6-10 characters of level 3-5)
L4C The Lendore Isles Companion (campaign rules and setting guide, intended to help with L4 in particular, and a short sea voyage adventure)
L5A The Kroten Campaign Guide ( information on the town of Kroten and the surrounding area)
L5B The Kroten Adventures (5 adventures set in and around the town of Kroten)
L5C The Kroten Campaign Companion (new rules, weapons, armour, gods, clerical abilities, magic items, spells and monsters)
L5 Map Pack (maps for the above)
