D&D (2024) Eldritch Cannon Question

Where do you draw LOS from? The Character or the Cannon? If you draw it from the cannon is the Ballista attack done with Disadvantage if the character does not have LOS but the Cannon does?

Make a ranged spell attack originating from the cannon

A DM might rule that the artificer cannot order the canon attack a target if they do not know where it is, but RAW they do not need a line of sight.

If we just assume an eldritch cannon has magical "intelligent targeting" as part of its design (as though it was a pet or familiar)... the cannon can find targets themselves by what "it" "sees", rather than the artificer needing to aim it and direct it.

The cannon is autonomous enough to follow the artificer around without being instructed for every turn, it’s not unreasonable that it can be controlled with instructions like “go over there and shoot whatever is hiding round the corner”.

I had one of these in the party, it used to ride on the shoulder of whichever PC was leading the way.
