Hey folks, just wanted to say that I had an idea a while ago to run a historical fiction Strahd campaign and, now that we've been going for 15 or so sessions, I have to say I think it's working really well. All of the players come from the "mundane" world to Barovia and so there's a constant source of fear and tension as they realize that occult, magical things exist out there, including their own powers. It also kinda works because basically until the 18th century as far as I can tell, it was pretty common to believe in magic and certainly in miracles, so it's not COMPLETELY throwing everything in the charters' minds for a loop, more like "wow, I always thought that this stuff existed...I guess it really does!" Plus, you know, constantly being threatened by werewolves and vampires.
