D&D (2024) Its The Same Game Right? 5.0 Options in 5.5

Legend
Atm we allow races and 2014 back grounds (pg 38 5.5 phb). Spells that don't exist in 5.5 phb are also fine.

We used Elven accuracy in a level 12 stress test on a champion. Vex/Nick you have
super advantage on every attack if you keep hitting and spend your inspiration via level 10 champion ability. Also has cute interaction with Innate Sorcery and spells like chromatic orb and scorching ray.

How about spells like booming blade and green flame blade? Shadow blade as well.

These are some obvious ones. A few players are picking older races due to lack of weapon and armor proficiencies. 2014 background also gets around the annoying origins system.

Backwards compatible if you squint? Backgrounds are RAW but other stuff is ask your DM I suppose. Thoughts?

My term for it is "mathematical compatibility". Mechanically, it may or may not work, but the underlying mathematics is pretty consistent.

I've just written an article showing one of the unexpected incompatibilities I've encountered using a 2014 adventure with the 2024 core rulebooks.

There's a couple of interactions that may break more than you expect.

Cheers!

Love your blog. But I don't think it's fair to say that 2024 and 2014 are not backwards compatible because of a single encounter in a 3rd party adventure which modifies a creature from the Monster Manual. I'm still open to the possibility that there are bigger issues with compatibility, but this is not a smoking gun.

Nice article. Brief but to the point.
