If following strictly the 6-8 encounters per day guidance, then id say 11-15X. Though, we didnt tend to have that many combats, so I chose 6-10. Thats combat cantrips and maybe a few instances of utility trips.
Light, so now no one has to worry about a hand for a torch. Mage Hand to handle simple dungeon inconveniences. Guidance, for every single skill check that the GM will OK it for.
These happen very frequently; if you add in attack cantrips, and figure the "average adventuring day" like payn mentioned, then 11-15.
I was just looking at the old BECMI and AD&D 1E tables and trying to figure out if what difference in casting spells at the table with at-will cantrips available. So I guess no particular class or level per se, but yeah I can see levels 1-10 vs a level 20 caster being different.
Obviously it depends on level and caster type. In general, I feel about a dozen or two times per adventuring day is about right. We tend towards more encounters per day, however, averaging about 6 combats and 3 exploration encounters per adventuring day (social encounters vary too much to give an average).
Depends on a lot of factors, level and build/game style especially.
Imon some level though I want to say "too often" because I think that getting away from charges wands of past editions detracts from the game by robbing casters of important incentives tobe excited inthe prospect of finding treasure
